David Lobenstine is among the most skilled, gifted and thoughtful practitioners I have met in three decades of receiving bodywork. He brings a deep knowledge of anatomy, a touch both insightful and masterful, and a rare spiritual generosity. He has helped me resolve chronic issues, for which I am grateful. But, far more rare, he has deepened my own somatic and spiritual conversation with my own body. It is an extraordinary gift when that most in-dwelling, personal and intimate discourse—between one’s self and one’s body—can be fully joined by a third. David has accomplished just that alchemy. To work with him is to attend a master’s class for body and soul.

David is truly a find. He is a gifted massage therapist who takes a highly focused, personal and mindful approach to his work—which elevates the experience beyond any I’ve had before. Part physical release, part meditation, his sessions always leave me feeling relaxed and restored. I don’t ‘veg out’ during a David massage. I’m a participant, learning as I go, and using my breath to find expansion and release. It’s been a pleasure working with David, and I am so grateful for his strong, skillful hands and open heart.

Prices

To make this work more feasible for more people, I work on a sliding scale:

  • 60-minute session: $145-175

  • 90-minute session: $215-255

  • 120-minute session: $290-350

I ask that each client pays what they are able.

Gratuity is not necessary; the best tip you can give me is to recommend my work to others.

COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS

As we adjust to the reality of living with COVID (and lots of other germs), we must continue to care for each other, carefully. Here are the steps I am implementing to make your massage as safe as possible:

YOU

  • I ask all clients to be masked the entire time they are in my office, including during the session. (The only exception is the portion of the session when you are lying face down. If it is uncomfortable or hard to breath with a mask while your head is in the face cradle, you may remove your mask then and put it back on when you turn over onto your back.)

  • I am expecting all clients to closely monitor themselves for any and all cold-related symptoms.

  • If you have any cold-related symptoms, or if you have been in close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID, I expect you to call/text/email and cancel your appointment. For both of these circumstances, I am waiving my 24-hour cancellation policy, so you will not be charged the usual 50% late-cancel fee. And I will happily reschedule your session after you’ve gotten a negative COVID test, or quarantined, or followed any and all other recommendations of your healthcare provider.

  • If you exhibit any cold-related symptoms while in my office, I reserve the right to stop our session and reschedule after you’ve gotten a negative COVID test and followed any other recommendations of your healthcare provider.

ME

  • I am fully vaccinated and boosted.

  • I am masked the entire time (I wear an N95 mask).

  • Same as always, I wash my hands at the end of every session, and before the start of the next session.

  • I will reschedule our session if I have any cold-related symptoms.

  • Beyond my work with you, I have been and will continue to be exceedingly careful in the rest of my life. I am happy to supply you with the laundry list of general precautions I am taking!

US

  • I change everything that touches you—sheets, face cradle cover, blanket—between every session.

  • I wipe down all contacted surfaces—massage table, face cradle, doorknobs, massage supplies, etc.—between every session.

  • I have a HEPA air filter running in my treatment room at all times, and another one running in the waiting area, which provide more than the recommended changeover of air per hour.

  • Our waiting area has been redesigned with minimal seating to ensure fewer people and more space between people.

  • Our office is mostly empty! (On our entire floor—which includes three treatment rooms and two dance studios, as well as an office, waiting room, kitchen, and two bathrooms—there will likely only be one or two other people in addition to you and me.)

  • Our office is regularly and thoroughly cleaned by our office manager.

  • Our office has hand sanitizer and extra masks available for anyone who needs them.

With these protocols in place, you can be confident that you are as safe as possible, and then you can focus on the important thing: getting a great massage and inhabiting your body anew!

I decided to close my practice for nearly a year and a half (March 14, 2020 to August 11, 2021), because I felt that it wasn’t safe and that we didn’t know enough about the science of spread (and then because my kids were home with us full-time!). I have reopened now only because I am confident that I can provide massage therapy safely, even with the various new variants. If that changes and I feel our work together is no longer safe, I will close my practice again. Please know that I am doing everything I can to keep you, and me, and my family safe.
